Business Excellence

Competency Development Programmes

TBExG facilitates several competency development programmes to enhance awareness of Business Excellence concepts and the Tata Business Excellence Model Framework. Every year, between May and April of the following year, TBExG facilitates training programmes aimed at building and enhancing the competencies of Business Excellence Assessors and evangelists in preparation for the forthcoming Assessment cycle (July-Nov).

The Assessor programmes are designed to prepare First-Time Assessors and support experienced Assessors. Every year, TBExG organises over 10 First-Time Assessor programmes, during which Assessors are taken through the fundamentals of the TBEM framework, introduced to the Assessment tools, and engage in discussions about the attributes of an effective Assessor. These programmes are planned for both middle managers and subject matter experts. The Experienced Assessors’ Programmes are facilitated to collectively reflect on the last Assessment cycle, understand the key changes in the TBEM 2.0 criteria and Assessment process, and recognise the key focus areas for the next Assessment cycle. These programmes are specially designed to ensure maximum learning through collaboration, case studies and interactive sessions. TBExG works with Tata companies to establish, promote and implement all-round excellence standards across the Group. Through its Excellence Competency Development Programmes, TBExG builds a strong pool of certified Assessors and improves competencies in Group companies.

In FY2025-26, TBExG trained 645 Assessors from 48 companies, reflecting continued emphasis on strengthening the Group's capabilities for the 2026 Assessment cycle. It reached a wide and diverse audience across the Tata ecosystem through a blended approach encompassing classroom programmes, experiential learning interventions, and digital learning platforms to build excellence competencies during the year.

The Practitioners' Programmes focus on building awareness and procedural knowledge of the Tata Business Excellence Framework. The Practitioners' Programmes have consistently delivered value to participating companies and colleagues by tailoring content and delivery to each company's specific needs and context. Last year, TBExG facilitated 10 Practitioners' Programmes, which empowered the group companies to create a shared vision and enhance their performance excellence journey. Participants were trained on the TBEM 2.0 framework alonside improvement tools such as Lean principles and quality control tools and were guided to identify real opportunities within their work areas. Live improvement projects formed a core part of the learning journey, ensuring direct linkage between competency development and business outcomes. These programmes were recommended for companies such as Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata AutoComp Systems, Tata Consulting Engineers, Tata Steel Colors, Tata Projects and Tata Teleservices and was attended by over 270 Tata colleagues. High-performing participants were invited to an exclusive TBEM Assessor Certification Programme, opening a pathway for Practitioners to transition into Assessor roles.

The group companies widely leverage the Business Excellence Appreciation Modules (BEAM e-Learning modules) to support their competency-building efforts. Many organisations have included this module as part of their induction plans. Currently, 45,500+ Tata colleagues from over 70 companies leveraged the e-Learning modules to enhance their understanding of TBEM 2.0 fundamentals and framework. These modules are available for all Tata colleagues and can be accessed through Tata Tomorrow University.
