The Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) plays a pivotal role in driving performance excellence across the Tata group and nurturing talent across the group. TBExG continues to support performance excellence by strengthening assessment capabilities across Tata companies. In the run-up to the 2025 Business Excellence Assessment cycle, TBExG delivered a series of 25 classroom-based Assessor Programmes between January and May 2025. Designed to strengthen internal BE competencies and identify potential Assessors, the sessions were held across Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, and the UK. A total of 419 participants from 54 Tata companies participated.
Designed to build internal BE competencies, the programmes offered hands-on learning aligned with Group priorities such as customer complaint management, customer experience, value proposition, process management and continuous improvement. This helped Assessors understand how to evaluate and improve the ways companies listen, connect, seek feedback and delight their customers. The updated modules also featured discussions on Cyber Excellence Process and Results, which brought in fresh perspectives on how assessors should look into the company’s cybersecurity practices.
The following key programmes were facilitated in the last competency development cycle:
Business Excellence Assessor Programmes (BEAP)
The BEAP programmes are a flagship initiative targeted at high-performing managers with 10+ years of functional experience. It sharpens leadership and analytical skills while preparing participants to evaluate organisations holistically, identify improvement opportunities, and deliver actionable feedback. Qualified participants become certified Assessors and have the opportunity to participate in the TBEM assessments. TBExG facilitated three BEAP programmes this year, with 76 participants, concluding with an NPS of 92.

Subject Matter Expert Assessor Programme (SMEAP)
SMEAP engages senior functional leaders with 15+ years of experience to bring specialised knowledge to the BE assessment process. Their domain expertise enhances the relevance and quality of recommendations provided during the assessment process.
TBExG facilitated seven SMEAPs - four open programmes, one for cybersecurity professionals and three in-house sessions for Tata Motors, Tata AutoComp, and Tata Capital. The programmes drew 105 participants from 20 companies across domains such as Human Resources, Finance, Operations, Digital, Technology, and Supply Chain. The sessions concluded with an overall NPS of 88.

Assessor Certification Programme (ACP)
In FY25, TBExG revamped the Business Excellence Champions Programme (BECP 2.0) to focus on continuous improvement, organisational learning, and leadership development. The certified Business Excellence Champions were invited to a specially curated two-day assessor programme called the Assessor Certification Programme (ACP), which is a new addition to the list of TBExG’s assessor programmes.
Of the 55 Certified BE Champions, 49 participated in three ACP sessions held in Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar. Twelve participants qualified for the 2025 BE assessments cycle.

Experienced Assessor Programme (EAP)
For seasoned assessors, the EAP offers a platform to stay abreast of evolving TBEM criteria and assessment practices. It ensures that good-performing experienced professionals continue to deliver high-impact assessment outcomes. Assessors with over four years of experience were invited to join the EAP Plus (EAP+2025). The core agenda of EAP2025 included changes in the BE Assessment process, the TBEM2.0 2025 criteria, and the key fundamentals of the assessment process. The EAPs focused on enhancing the assessment experience for all stakeholders within Tata Group companies.
12 EAP sessions were held in April 2025 in both online and classroom formats. A total of 189 experienced Assessors from 45+ Tata companies participated. The programme’s content design, overall flow, engagement and activities resonated with the participants, and concluded with an NPS of 94.3.

Way forward
The 2025 Assessor Programmes drew enthusiastic participation from across the Group, reflecting their continued value. This year, TBExG aims to deepen its Assessor and Champion pool by engaging talent from service industries and newer Tata companies. The focus will be on expanding access through a mix of e-modules and classroom sessions, making learning more relevant, accessible, and aligned with the evolving business needs.
