TBExG holds a BE Practitioner’s Programme for Tata Capital

Published on February 23, 2016

Continuing in its core purpose of enabling business excellence in Tata companies, TBExG held a 3-day Business Excellence Practitioner’s programme for the middle management team of Tata Capital. The workshop, which was held February 18-20, 2016 in the company’s Thane, Mumbai premises, was attended by 35 participants representing the different businesses and functions of Tata Capital. The focus of the programme was to create a high level of engagement with business excellence practitioners within the company for the Tata Business Excellence Model framework. The session also aimed to highlight the Business Excellence journey of Tata Capital till now.

To make the programme a highly interactive and interesting one, the TBExG team used multiple videos of Tata companies and some world-class companies, to cover all aspects of TBEM. Apart from this, case studies of some excellent companies outside the Tata group were also discussed in great detail, which enabled the participants to learn different aspects of what non-Tata companies do for driving business excellence within their respective organisations.

The highlight of the session was an interaction that the participants had on the second day of the programme with Mr. Praveen Kadle, Managing Director, Tata Capital. To make the exercise more relevant to the company, participants had made preparations in advance to identify certain key challenges and recommended solutions at Tata Capital. During the interaction with Mr. Kadle, some suggested solutions were discussed, while the rest were shared with him offline. Another key aspect of the workshop was a detailed assessment of the strengths and opportunities for improvement of Tata Capital, which were identified by the participants post an in-depth understanding of the TBEM model. This discussion was facilitated by Mr. Uttam Soni, BE Head, Tata Capital, who also presented the Business Excellence plan of Tata Capital to the group. On the last day of the programme, a video of the speech made in 1994 by Louis Grestner, ex-Chairman of IBM, about the transformation of the company was played. The participants found this video quite inspirational, and were able to take back many lessons from it.

The session was very well-appreciated by the participants from Tata Capital, with many of them making a commitment to take the next step and join the growing ranks of assessors for the TBEM assessments of different Tata companies in the near future.

Some voices from the participants of the programme:

I must say that these 3 days of TBEM programme have been just exceptional… One of the best programmes I have ever attended. The video of the IBM Chairman’s speech was no doubt the most inspiring and has put the fire in the belly of all participants for accepting challenges and giving it your best…

The video of the IBM Chairman was really informative. I loved the way Louis Grestner communicated the ideas to his senior leadership team simply, yet effectively with the help of just two charts. The overall TBEM training was very enriching and very well conducted

The entire 3-day TBEM training was a good eye opener and I feel that if we implement at least 50% of the learnings in our day-to-day professional working, a big difference and change will be visible. I manage a big Sales team, and I want to assure you that I will be implementing the same.
