Experienced Assessor Programme: Adding value to TBEM Assessments

Published on May 06, 2016

The Experienced Assessor Programme (EAP) is amongst the most prestigious programmes the Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) conducts as part of its Capability Building programme offerings. The main purpose of the programme, which is offered as part of the TBEM Assessment-related training programmes, is to acknowledge changes in the content of the Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) and the assessment process, to learn from the experiences of the last cycle, and to prepare for the next cycle of assessments.

From a Tata company’s perspective, an ideal TBEM Assessment team is the one that has about 70 percent of its members who are experienced assessors. These assessors are also the most sought after in TBEM Assessments for the value they bring in from their diverse experiences – both in dealing with business situations across stakeholders as well as in conducting assessments.

  • Mentorship
  • Articulation that inspires action
  • Result-led analysis
  • Strategic insights

Since the beginning of this year till date, TBExG has conducted eight batches of the EAP in different locations including Mumbai, Pune and Jamshedpur. These batches covered an impressive 200 participants, and were designed around four major themes:

All the EAP sessions comprised several interesting sessions on voices of stakeholders; criteria changes in 2016 assessments; assessment of Category 3; approach for Category 6 assessment;  case study discussions focusing on results analysis & quality of feedback comments; and strategy, technology and sustainability assessments in Tata companies.

This year, for the first time in EAP, case studies based on the behaviour of assessors were used in sessions to take assessorship and professionalism to next level. In addition, interactions of participants with BE Heads were organised to set expectations for the experienced assessors. Few EAPs also included interactions between experienced TBEM mentors like AB Lall, Head, Tata Motors Jamshedpur Plant, who addressed the participants and shared their experiences with them.

The EAP sessions are highly successful and appreciated by participants, since they benefit greatly from the valuable insights provided by the mentors. Experienced facilitators from TBExG like M Nagabhushan, Anil Menghrajani, Sanjeev Singh, Saurav Chakrabarti and Vinod Kumar also brought in immense value to the sessions by facilitating and sharing experiences related to TBEM Assessments. Participants provided feedback that the sessions added immense value to their assessment skills, giving them the much needed boost required to upgrade their managerial skills.
