Capability Building Programmes aligned to TBEM 2.0 kicked off with SMEAP and BEAP

Published on February 19, 2024

The upgraded Business Excellence framework (TBEM 2.0) was launched at the Business Excellence Convention (BEC) 2023 by Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran and will be leveraged in the 2024 BE Assessments. Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) initiated the Capability Building Programmes aligned to TBEM 2.0 in preparation for the upcoming assessment process. The first programmes were planned in the first week of February — the Subject Matter Expert Assessor Programme (SMEAP) in Mumbai and the Business Excellence Assessor Programme (BEAP) in Bengaluru.

The SMEAP was facilitated from February 5-7, 2024, and was held in IHCL Selections - President, Mumbai. 18 Tata colleagues attended the three-day session with 15+ years of experience from Tata Power, Tata Communications, Tata Consulting Engineers, and Tata Consultancy Services. The learning pedagogy of the SMEAP programme has been enhanced while keeping in mind the changing role and expectations of subject matter experts (SMEs) in the assessment process. The experiential learning through breakout sessions and role plays gave a better understanding of the Assessment process and the tools leveraged. As part of the LeaderSpeak session, Dr Richard Lobo, Head - Innovation, R&D, Business Excellence, & Chief Ethics Counselor, Tata Chemicals, explained the critical role played by SMEs in the Assessment teams. He also shared his Assessment experience as a Team Leader and Business Excellence Head. He deliberated how Tata Group companies leverage the BE Assessment in their performance excellence journeys with Anecdotes. The session was facilitated by Sayantan Roy, General Manager & Head of Competency Development TBExG. The programme enables senior functional leaders with domain expertise to become Business Excellence Assessors and contribute to delivering actionable and consultative feedback.

The BEAP in Bengaluru was held for the first time after 2019. The programme from February 5-8, 2024, was designed to enable high-performing Tata managers to become Business Excellence Assessors, thereby sharpening their leadership competencies. 15 Tata colleagues from Tata Play, Tata Realty and Titan participated in the four-day programme facilitated by Siddharth Bhatt, Deputy General Manager, and Anshul Garg, Deputy General Manager, TBExG. The programme deliberated on the tools and phases of the assessment process, the key changes in TBEM 2.0, and what makes it a future-ready framework. The session was addressed by Panneer Selvam C, Head - Supply Chain & Procurement, Titan, where he explained how assessorship helps in professional development and expectations from first-time Assessors. The session concluded with online quizzes.

TBExG has planned for a few open SMEAP and BEAP programmes in the next three months, and all certified Assessors will be included in the 2024 Assessments. Below is the schedule of the upcoming programmes. For more details, please get in touch with Nalini Tolar at ntolar@tata.com.
