Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) conducted a Learning Mission to BOSCH Nashik plant on August 9-10, 2018. This Learning Mission, which was based on the theme of Operational Excellence – Industry 4.0, was attended by 34 delegates from 16 companies across the Tata group. During the two days, the BOSCH team shared an array of best practices on topics like process management, lean manufacturing, HR excellence, safety excellence and energy management.

On day 1, the BOSCH plant management team welcomed the delegates and kicked off the session by sharing an overview of the plant with details of the products being manufactured. This was followed by a presentation on process management wherein the BOSCH Production System (BPS) framework was shared. Delegates were also acquainted with various HR-related best practices at BOSCH.

Delegates also got a chance to visit a BOSCH shop floor to understand more about the online value stream system, the use of lean manufacturing concepts and Robotics & Automation. The day ended with a visit to the Safety Academy and the Social Engagement Centre.

Day 2 began with a visit to the Quality Academy and Industry 4.0 Academy to understand how BOSCH is using various technologies to make operations leaner and future-ready. A live demonstration of the academy’s concepts was conducted during a shop floor visit.

Delegates also shared three Tata practices with the BOSCH plant management team. Sanjeev Singh, AVP, TBExG, spoke about enabling Business Excellence in Tata companies; Sudhakar Tandon, Head – CI Assets, Tata Power, threw light on the company’s Project Sankalp; and S Srinivasan, Divisional Manager from Titan provided an overview on Green Perspectives in Manufacturing. The BOSCH plant management team appreciated the practices and expressed a desire to take the learning forward by connecting with Tata companies in the coming months. The management team at BOSCH was also impressed by the Learning Mission process and wanted to replicate it within their own ecosystem.

Several delegates provided positive feedback on the experience of the two-day Learning Mission, indicating that they found the event well-structured and organised. The sessions were extremely useful as they enabled participants to identify key learnings which could be applied back to their organisations.
