Published on March 13, 2024

Tata Power, in its commitment to prioritising safety & health across company businesses, recently engaged in a series of Certified Internal Examiner in Tata Safety & Health Management System (TSHMS) workshops. These tailored workshops, facilitated by the Group Safety & Health function at Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG), witnessed enthusiastic participation of 225+ employees spanning various locations and businesses, including Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) and Tata Power Discoms in Odisha.

The eight in-house training sessions, conducted for varied business units of Tata Power, covered Generation (June 12-13, 2023), Transmission (August 3-4, 2023), Renewables (August 9-10, 2023), Tata Power-DDL (December), Odisha (January 5-6, and 8-9, 2024; February 9-10, and 12-13, 2024). Notably, one of the sessions achieved the highest NPS of 92.

The TSHMS is one of the key building blocks for Tata companies to go beyond compliance and set the highest standards of Safety & Health. This system sets the guidelines on how Tata companies should operationalise and manage Safety & Health and addresses all aspects of Safety & Occupational Health. When fully implemented, it will help ensure rigour in safety operations. TSHMS was introduced in 2016 and comprises 13 elements and 144 expectations, scored on a scale of 0 to 4.

The design of the Certified Internal Examiner in TSHMS workshops explored key safety system features and its 13 elements, delivering insights into interconnected safety systems and processes. Participants were assessed through a multifaceted approach, consisting of pre-work, classroom engagement, tests, and the application of acquired knowledge in post-programme activities.

Culminating in a certification, the participating Tata Power employees gained a deeper understanding of interconnected safety systems and learned practical auditing techniques for conducting a self-assessment of their sites on the TSHMS elements. The highlight of these workshops was the integration of the post-session activities, which provided practical insights and equipped participants with valuable tools for self-assessment, also ensuring that knowledge gained in the classroom was applied to real-world scenarios.
