High performing managers from Titan Company undertook the Embracing Business Excellence (EBE) Programme, facilitated by Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG). A series of three such customised programmes, which drew 65 participants from across functions and business units of Titan, were conducted this year; the programme was designed by TBExG’s capability building team in collaboration with N E Sridhar, Business Excellence Head, and supported by L&D Team of Titan. The Titan TBEM Application was used as the case study for discussions to make the sessions more relevant for the participants.
The programmes, which were facilitated between Sanjeev Singh, AVP, TBExG, and Devraj Chattaraj, DGM, TBExG, focused on identification of improvement opportunities through learning and then using the process and results maturity dimensions (ADLI & LeTCI). In addition to the fundamentals of business excellence and the TBEM criteria, the facilitators focused on how to appreciate the organisation holistically and its strategic context.
Post the programmes, the participants are engaged in applying learnings in their respective processes, functions internal assessments and action planning to support Titan’s business excellence journey. Later, some of them were also given opportunities for a special Business Excellence Assessor Programme (BEAP) to qualify as a TBEM external assessor. The higher number of Gold assessors coming out from this method indicates how systemically Titan could inculcate the business excellence culture amongst the high performers and yet provide opportunity to the employees who have demonstrated assessor like attributes to take their journey forward. Titan plans to institutionalise this approach on annual basis to nurture the culture of business excellence in the company.
The programmes were very well appreciated by the participants, with 98% of the participants finding the programmes to be Experiential, Enriching and Exciting while 91% of the participants scored the programme more than 7 (on a scale of 1 to 10. Many participants also indicated that they would go back to their functions with a greater understanding of TBEM and the company’s business excellence journey, more importantly how this knowledge will help them drive excellence in their respective functions.
Participant speak
“An excellent programme with a lot of learnings and the faculty explained with patience and enthusiasm.”
“The training was very interactive and gave a broader perspective of running business.”
“Learnings from the session will be used for my company’s TBEM journey.”
“I will try to apply the different facets of business excellence to my own performance.”
“I will strive to make Titan a world-class organisation in every aspect.”
“Instead of having a micro view of any activity, I now have a more holistic and strategic view.”
“The open discussion forum was very interactive and provided a lot of insight in how an organisation works. The importance of working in collaboration in a defined function of the business vis-a-vis other functions came out strongly for the overall business excellence journey.”
TBExG introduced the EBE programme last year with the aim of enabling leaders and managers to understand TBEM and get oriented with their company’s business excellence journey. The Titan example of leveraging the programme for developing high performing managers through the programme and integrating with assessor development is an example by itself.
