Titan has taken a proactive step in strengthening its data privacy and compliance framework by implementing a centralised, tool-enabled Data Retention Schedule (DRS) Management System. Earlier, manual and department-level retention practices limited the organisation’s ability to ensure consistent compliance with privacy regulations that require structured and auditable retention controls.
The absence of central oversight led to inconsistent retention timelines and fragmented deletion practices. This decentralisation increased the risk of retaining data beyond legal timelines or deleting records prematurely, impacting both compliance and business continuity. It also made maintaining audit trails and demonstrating regulatory readiness more difficult.
Drawing inspiration from learnings shared by TCS Global Data Privacy team during Tata Data Privacy Forum meets, Titan adopted a centralised DRS system to enhance visibility and standardisation across business functions. The system features configurable retention schedules mapped to record categories and jurisdictions, ensuring structured governance and alignment with privacy-by-design principles.
This initiative is expected to reduce manual tracking efforts, improve transparency, and enhance accountability among data owners. It also supports long-term compliance and audit readiness by establishing a sustainable and traceable data retention process.
Participant Speak
Every organisation’s data privacy compliance journey evolves at its own pace, shaped by its business priorities and market presence. The Data Privacy Forum, led by Tata Business Excellence Group, has been instrumental in fostering a collaborative platform for learning—enabling Group companies to share experiences, exchange best practices, and collectively overcome implementation challenges. To strengthen compliance and governance, our company implemented a centralised, tool-enabled Data Retention Schedule (DRS) management system, inspired by successful approaches adopted by other Tata group entities. This initiative has enhanced compliance assurance and established a sustainable, transparent data retention process that aligns seamlessly with our privacy and regulatory objectives.
