Have you joined the Tata Group’s World-Class Business Excellence journey? Take your first step today!

Did you know that the Tata Group’s Business Excellence journey began 30 years ago in the early 1990s?

TBEM Journey Overview

The Tata Group has always aimed for business excellence. In the 1990s, it began a Business Excellence movement to unify its approach with a shared vision and standards. The goal was to create a collective vision, benchmark against the best, and understand its current and future position as a group.

Upon becoming chairman in 1994, Mr Ratan Tata emphasised making the Tata name synonymous with quality globally. To achieve this, all Tata companies, products, services, and employees were aligned under the business excellence initiative.

The Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) framework guides the entire process of training, assessment, feedback, and action planning. Today, Tata companies use TBEM to assess their businesses comprehensively and implement improvements to enhance their competitive strength, financial performance, and operational efficiencies. Since the inception of the TBEM assessments in 1994, the Tata Business Excellence Model has evolved along with the drivers of organisational competitiveness and long-term success.

The Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) drives the Tata Group's TBEM movement. It offers various competency development programmes to prepare business leaders for achieving benchmark performance excellence. These programmes focus on building the skills of Assessors and Champions.

The TBEM criteria are continually revised in response to the changing business environment, assisting companies in keeping pace with developments and increasing competitiveness. To allow everyone to participate and contribute to the journey of business excellence, a set of e-modules, Business Excellence Appreciation Modules (BEAM), available at Tata Tomorrow University, have been designed specifically to enhance and grasp the concepts of Business Excellence.

What are the BEAM e-Modules?

The BEAM e-modules on Business Excellence were first launched in 2019 to support companies in their journey of Business Excellence. Many Group companies leveraged these e-modules to build competencies, and awareness around Business Excellence.

TBEM2.0 was launched in December 2023. It incorporates (a.) the changes included in the Baldrige Excellence Framework 2023-2024 and (b.) additional questions relevant to the Tata group focus areas. These changes position the TBEM framework to navigate the evolving business landscape effectively, ensuring the Tata Group's continued pursuit of excellence.

With over 220 minutes of engaging content, the BEAM e-modules explore the Tata Business Excellence Model, the Assessment process, and the core values behind the Group’s success. Over 24,000+ Tata colleagues from 70+ companies have already benefitted from these modules.
