Tata Steel Downstream Products Limited (TSDPL), a subsidiary of Tata Steel is India’s largest steel service centre organisation. The company has embarked on a journey of 25 years of excellence, and it wanted to revisit its Mission, Vision and Values (VMV) statement. The existing statement was developed a few years ago and it was timely to revisit them considering the growth and staying relevant to the changing times. TSDPL embarked on a journey of co-creating their new VMV statement along with their stakeholders. Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) helped TSDPL in developing their new VMV statement with consolidated inputs from all stakeholders through online surveys, focus group discussions, one-on-one leadership interfaces and senior leadership workshops.
More than 500 people across TSDPL were engaged in co-creating this VMV over a span of two and a half months, and all inputs were put together to coin the new VMV statement. The format, structure and presentations were very well received and appreciated by all participants. The engagement not only helped TSDPL in drafting their new VMV statement but also helped in collective engagement of cross-functional teams across the company, which is crucial for achieving company-wide alignment and shared commitment towards the VMV statement.
With a new VMV statement, TSDPL effectively communicates its purpose, aspirations, and values to its stakeholders. The company will use it as a guiding framework for decision-making, strategy development and culture building.
