TNF India – East organises a session on Digitalisation in Manufacturing

Tata Network Forum (TNF) India - East organised a session on Digitalisation in Manufacturing at the Kolkata-based Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) office. The event brought together 80 Tata executives representing 17 Tata companies. Dr Venkataramana Runkana, Chief Scientist, TCS Research, Manufacturing & Engineering and Industrial Services (TRDDC); Dr BP Gautham, Principal Scientist and Head, PREMAP and ICME, Research & Innovation Programme, TCS; Shishir Dahake, Smart Machine Research & Innovation Programme, TCS; and Ajay Cyril, Manager - Projects and Operations, Tata Group Technology and Innovation Office, were some of the speakers at this day-long event.

Mukesh Prasad, Convener, TNF India - East commenced the programme with his opening remarks. Dr Arpan Pal, Principal Scientist and Head, TCS Research & Innovation, set the context for the day-long event.
Dr Runkana then conducted a session on Advance Process & Equipment Analytics for Manufacturing, wherein he spoke about key performance indicators (KPIs) in manufacturing and process industries, challenges in process monitoring, optimisation and control.

Dr Gautham then gave an insight on Process and Materials Engineering: Key Benefits to Industrial Partners and how digital is helping manufacturing enterprises. His session was followed by Mr Cyril’s talk on how wearable technologies are enabling safety in process plants.

Mr Dahake, the next speaker, shared his views on the current trends in Robotics in Manufacturing. He focused on how present-generation robots are highly programmed with all aspects of human settings.

The post-lunch session comprised a talk by Kuruvilla Markose, Chief Digital Officer, Titan, who spoke about the application of digital in marketing. The last session of the day was a panel discussion on challenges faced in manufacturing industries and how digital technologies can help in solving them; this was followed by a Q&A session.
