40+ BE Heads of Tata companies come together at the BE Heads Meet 2024

The BE Heads Meet 2024, organised by Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) on April 25, 2024 at Taj The Trees in Mumbai, brought together more than 60 participants including 40+ BE Heads from Tata companies as well as leaders and consultants from TBExG.

Manisha Telkar, Manager, TBExG, who was the host for the first half of the day, welcomed the participants and set the context for the event, which was the first physical BE Heads Meet post the COVID-19 period.

Sanjeev Singh, Vice President & Head, TBExG Then, Sanjeev Singh, Vice President & Head, TBExG, addressed the gathering, providing his perspective on the critical role of BE Heads in the performance excellence journey of the group. Thanking the BE Heads for their support in the continuous pursuit of excellence for the Tata group, Sanjeev said that BE Heads create a buy-in on the excellence journey of the company by continuously engaging with the leadership. He detailed that the criteria of the business excellence framework has been changed after taking the areas of importance for the Tata group into consideration; it was released in the Business Excellence Convention 2023.

Deepak Deshpande, Vice President, TBExG, spoke about how TBExG supports organisations in their pursuit of performance excellence through various types of interventions. Deepak then articulated the changing role of the BE Heads including excellence champion, custodian of the culture of excellence, key project manager, integrator across functions, influencer, and more. He went on to present the quantitative as well as qualitative feedback of the CSAT survey that was undertaken by TBExG last year.

The next presentation was by Sayantan Roy, General Manager, TBExG, who provided an overview of TBEM 2.0. He threw light on the enablers and changes that make the framework a future-ready one. TBEM 2.0 hence includes added emphasis on the Tata group focus areas, including Safety, Digitisation, Artificial Intelligence, Sustainability, Supply Chain and Talent. He also spoke about the rollout of the framework and how it would be leveraged for upcoming BE assessments.

Namrata Basnet, Senior Manager, TBExG, then took the participants through the key changes that have taken place in the BE assessment process. As part of TBExG’s efforts to inculcate feedback, the team has continued its n=1 approach and customised the BE assessment process for each company. In addition, she spoke about the digitisation changes that will be implemented in the upcoming BE assessment cycle, which would lead to optimisation of the assessment team’s effort.

Post lunch, Anshul Garg, Deputy General Manager, TBExG, who was the host for the second half of the day, welcomed two BE Heads from Tata companies to share their experiences with participants. Suvajit Chakraborty, Head – Business Excellence, mjunction, detailed how the company has promoted the culture of excellence through CFTs, knowledge management initiatives, and integrating the organisational initiatives with action items from BE assessments. He also spoke about the support received from TBExG through deep dives, best practice sharing sessions, action planning workshops, among others. Ramesh Sadasivan, Head – Business Excellence, Tata Communications, shared the experience of his company undergoing synchronous assessments of Business and Data Excellence. Reiterating how such an assessment optimised efforts for both assessors and his company, he mentioned that the feedback on business and data was deeply interconnected.

The last session for the day was breakout session presentations during which three teams represented by BE Heads shared their thoughts on how TBExG can support organisations at various stages of their excellence journeys.

The session ended with Sanjeev Singh thanking the BE Heads for their high engagement and valuable inputs to TBExG.
