Published on June 24, 2017

Tata Network Forums (TNF) India – South, along with the Tata Sustainability Group (TSG), organised an event, the Tata Sustainability Month (TSM), on June 6, 2017, at TCS’ City Center Office in Bangalore. The programme witnessed the attendance of 62 senior management executives, representing 18 Tata companies. Through the TSM celebrations, the TSG emphasised that sustainability is the responsibility of not just the CSR function, but all the other functions within a company too.

S R Mukherjee, CEO, Tata Advanced Materials Limited, welcomed the gathering on behalf of the TNF. In his opening remarks, Shankar Venkateswaran, Chief, TSG, outlined the various activities planned for June as part of TSM.

The keynote address on sustainability was given by Sanjeev Sharma, Country Managing Director, ABB Ltd, who talked about what sustainability means for ABB from a business context. He elaborated that sustainability in the company is focused on three pillars – Prevention, Detection and Resolution. Through various examples, Mr Sharma described how sustainability is embedded in ABB’s operating processes.

This was followed by an interactive panel discussion, in which the panelists for the discussion were: K S Srinivasan, CHRO, Tata Global Beverages, R Ravi Shankar, Head – Supply Chain, Tata Projects, and ES Chakravarthy, Head - Operations, TCS Bangalore. The discussion was moderated by Mr Venkateswaran.

During the discussion, Mr Srinivasan shared numerous case studies from Tata Global Beverages and explained how the focus of companies now is not just on profitability, but also on achieving the triple bottom line of people, planets and profits. Mr Shankar spoke about how sustainability is entrenched across the supply chain in Tata Projects. Mr Chakravarthy shared how sustainability was driven across employees within TCS.

The programme was coordinated by Sumant Sood, convener of TNF India – South and Sanjeev Singh, TBExG coordinator for the region, along with volunteers from local group companies.
