Best Practice Sharing Forums: Accelerating Excellence Through Collective Learning

Learning from One Another

Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG) has long championed the belief that excellence grows when organisations learn from one another. The Best Practice Sharing Forums translate that belief into action by creating structured opportunities for Tata companies to exchange experiences, showcase proven approaches and accelerate improvement across organisational boundaries.

What began as a focused platform for Treasury and Investment Management has grown into a vibrant ecosystem spanning Internal Audit, Supply Chain Management, Data Excellence, Cyber Excellence, Data Privacy and Manufacturing Quality. Across 54 forum sessions, more than 3,000 participant engagements from 61 companies have helped create a practitioner-led network built around openness, relevance and application.

From Sharing to Business Impact

The forums are designed to move beyond presentations. Participants learn directly from teams that have implemented a practice, understand the context and critical success factors, and assess how the idea can be adapted within their own organisation. This creates a clear pathway from sharing to learning, adoption and impact.

Across the forum journey, 198 best practices have been shared and 56 have been implemented by participating companies. Eighteen implementations have already demonstrated measurable business impact. An overall Top-2-Box feedback score of approximately 80% further reflects the relevance and value participants associate with the experience.

Learning Across Established and New-Age Businesses

A distinctive strength of the initiative is the diversity of its hosts. Forum meets have been organised by large and long-established Tata companies, including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Communications, Tata Chemicals, Titan Company, Tata Capital and The Indian Hotels Company. They have also been hosted by newer-age, digital and technology-led businesses such as Tejas Networks, BigBasket, Tata 1mg Technologies and mjunction services, as well as Tata Advanced Systems and Tata AutoComp Systems.

This breadth creates genuine cross pollination. Participants can compare approaches across industries, business models, customer contexts and technology environments, then adapt relevant ideas to their own organisations.

Leadership as a Force Multiplier

Senior leadership participation has been a defining feature of the forums. Based on the consolidated record, 29 of the 54 sessions, or approximately 53%, featured a CEO, CXO, Managing Director, Chief Economist, Executive Director or another senior leader. Their presence has connected functional practices with enterprise priorities such as governance, transformation, resilience, innovation, customer centricity and sustainable value creation.

The forums have benefitted from leaders from Tata companies and external institutions including State Bank of India, Citibank India, Morgan Stanley India, Axis Bank, ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company, Marsh India and J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. This combination of peer practice and leadership perspective has elevated the forums into strategic learning platforms.

The Next Chapter

Building on the momentum of the existing forums, continuous improvement and customer experience are the next two upcoming communities. These forums will create new opportunities to share practices that improve efficiency, agility, customer outcomes and enterprise performance.

As Tata companies navigate artificial intelligence, digital transformation, cybersecurity risks, sustainability imperatives and rapidly evolving customer expectations, the need for collective learning will continue to grow. The Best Practice Sharing Forums have shown that when one company shares a proven idea, many others can learn faster, implement with greater confidence and create value sooner.

Learning Together. Sharing Together. Implementing Together. Leading Together.
Excelling Together.
