Published on August 31, 2023

Tata Business Excellence Group’s (TBExG’s) process benchmarking studies play a pivotal role within the Tata group to trigger improvements. These studies help group companies benchmark their performance/process levels and create a network of experts on the topic.

TBExG facilitated the 40th benchmarking study on Data Excellence with the aim of understanding various aspects of a data-driven culture, investments in tools and technology, landscape modernisation, unlocking the value of data, building competencies, driving adoption, key trends and promising practices. The outcomes were shared through a webinar on August 23, 2023, which involved 10 B2B and 16 B2C companies, including 2 enterprises from each category, resulting in a total of 28 group companies. The study collected insights from numerous group companies, ranging from e-commerce business BigBasket to manufacturing giant Tata Steel. During the webinar, these companies discussed their approaches to analytics, AI/ML use cases, and data-driven decision-making. The webinar shared some of the study's insights with the aim of exchanging best practices and nurturing a culture of Data Excellence among Tata companies.

The webinar was designed by TBExG in collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) from group companies, where the SMEs also shared practices from their respective companies during the session.

The key takeaways from this session were promising practices in areas like real-time data usage, AI/ML adoption, and modern technology landscape. The webinar also touched upon global trends on data and analytics such as breaking down data silos, embracing open data ecosystems, AI adoption, infusion of insights, and managing unknown data.

Going forward, the TBExG team plans on sharing detailed reports with group companies to identify opportunities for improvement, and also organise cluster sessions for mutual learning and sharing of best practices.
