Tata AutoComp: Hendrickson Suspensions Bags First Runner Up Recognition in Safety Category

On 20th  December, 2022, the 13th ACMA (WR) Kaizen Competition in ‘Safety Category’ was conducted, in which a total of 106 teams participated. Tata AutoComp Hendrickson Suspensions presented a few kaizens that improved workplace and employee safety, which were highly appreciated by the ACMA jury panel. Among them, the following kaizen was one of the best safety improvement activities which reduced human interference while working on the Fixture. This improvement helped in increasing the safety and morale of the  operator working on the equipment.

Problem Definition:

Previously operator had to manually fix the Split Dowel into the job by hammering it 7-8 times. Due to the impact hammering, there were  chances of the operator getting tired and chances of  injury while hammering with force.

Solution:

  1. The impact hammering manual activity was totally eliminated with hydraulic pressing machine, where the operator has to press the button to start the hydraulic cylinder.
  2. Body/hand Vibration due to hammering activity was totally eliminated.
  3. Impact noises were totally eliminated.
  4. Flying of metal chips due to hammering was eliminated.
  5. Ergonomics was improved.
  6. Work fatigue and stress were eliminated.
