Tata Group’s Top Safety Professionals Engage During the Annual Safety Heads Meet 2020

The fifth annual Tata Safety heads Meet saw an august gathering of Tata Group’s safety heads. More than 40 Safety Heads attended the event, organised at President, IHCL SeleQtions, Mumbai, on February 7, 2020. The deliberations at the event centred on common group initiatives, updates of last year’s activities, and the future roadmap.

Gautam Gondil, Assistant Vice President - Group Safety & Health, Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG), started the day by providing an update on group safety initiatives and plans as well as expectations from the companies on Safety.

Sanjay Rajasekaran, Senior Consultant - Group Safety & Health, TBExG, threw light on group incident analysis and common findings from the incidents.

Participants at the meet then discussed and formulated guidelines for eliminating severe injuries in four identified areas, namely road/driving activities; loading/unloading activities, including vehicle movement within premises; roofing work/working at heights; and fires. The groups then presented their final recommendations.

The members of the Safety Steering Committee (SSC), S Padmanabhan, Chairman – SSC, Tata Sons Private Limited; Sanjiv Paul, VP – SHE & Sustainability, Tata Steel Limited; and Chaitanya Sathe, DC Head - Mumbai & Corporate Safety Leader, TCS Limited, joined the gathering. Subsequently, Safety Heads of ten companies presented organisation-level case studies on efforts taken to eliminate hazards in their organisations. The ten companies were Tata Power, Tata Motors, Tata Global Beverages, Tata BlueScope Steel, TCS, Tata Steel, Tata NYK, Titan, Tata Communications and Tata Metaliks. The case studies provided a detailed view of the initiatives taken to the members of the Safety Steering Committee.

An open house with the SSC members followed, which was moderated by Mr Gondil. He also brought the proceedings to a close with a vote of thanks.

The participants appreciated the opportunity to interact with senior leadership and fellow Safety Heads and expressed eagerness to attend the next event.
