Mentors present the summary of Business Excellence Assessments 2022 to the Group Chairman

Mentors of 20 Tata companies that underwent the Business Excellence Assessment in the 2022 cycle presented key strengths and imperatives to N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, on November 28, 2022, at the Taj Mahal Tower, Mumbai. The session was attended by S Padmanabhan, Chairman of the Governing Council of Tata Business Excellence Group (TBExG); and members of the Governing Council -- Aarthi Subramanian, Chief Digital Officer, Tata Sons; Harish Bhat, Brand Custodian, Tata Sons; Puneet Chhatwal, MD & CEO, The Indian Hotels Company; Rajiv Sabharwal, MD & CEO, Tata Capital; T V Narendran, MD, Tata Steel; and C K Venkataraman, MD, Titan Company.

Subhrajit Basu, General Manager, TBExG, welcomed the attendees. Mr Padmanabhan then took the participants through the highlights of the 2022 Business Excellence Assessment cycle. Thanking the Mentors for the valuable guidance to the assessment teams, he mentioned that for the 20 assessments, 247 assessors from 51 companies made contributions, of which 20% were women assessors. This year nine new mentors were inducted in the process and added significant value. Mr Padmanabhan also mentioned that the assessments were customised for each company’s unique needs to ensure that the feedback was actionable. Accordingly, in 2022, there were assessments carried out in different formats e.g. Enterprise, Enterprise + Business Unit/locations, Synchronised assessments (Business + Data Excellence), and so on.

The Mentors then narrated the summary of the assessment findings for their respective companies. This presentation also included two Data Excellence assessment presentations. The companies that underwent assessment in 2022 were:

This time, the meeting also had two CEOs sharing their progress in their excellence journeys. R Mukundan, MD & CEO, Tata Chemicals, shared the improvement actions taken after the assessment by the company, while Campbell Wilson, MD & CEO, Air India, shared his impressions on the TBEM Assessors’ engagement to guide and improve critical processes in Air India. Mr Wilson also thanked the TBEM fraternity for supporting his company’s business excellence journey.

In the end, Mr Chandrasekaran, in his closing remarks, acknowledged how the Business Excellence Assessment process added tremendous value to the Tata group over the years and shared some of his takeaways from the meeting. He also thanked all the Mentors and Assessors for their commitment to the assessment process and how their contribution adds value to companies year after year.

The meeting ended with a networking opportunity over Hi-Tea.
